Historical Society in need of family histories

Missed getting your family history or story in either Volume I or Volume II of the History of Johnson County? If you did here’s good news! The Johnson County Historical Society is working on Volume III and it’s not too late to get your family history or story recorded in it.
The society heard from a number of folks who said they regretted not getting in on the first two books of family history. Many were surprised to see how beautiful and informative the books were. Because of several requests and a desire to give everyone a chance to record their family histories, the society embarked on the project last year with the aim to publish Volume III this year.
Volume III will be a 9” x 12” hardbound book with a red cover with the Johnson County seal embossed in gold on the front of the book. The books will match Volumes I and II.
The deadline for family histories is March 31, 2015. That is a firm deadline and there will be no extensions. So, begin now to gather information on your family, type it or have someone type it and bring it to the Johnson County Welcome Center, 716 South Shady Street, Mountain City, TN. It may also be mailed to Johnson County Historical Society, P. O. Box 123, Mountain City, TN, 37683 or e-mailed to [email protected] All residents, former residents, and those with roots in Johnson County are invited to submit family histories, stories and anecdotes. Family histories of 500 words or less and one picture are free. Additional words are 10 cents per word and additional pictures are $12.50 each.
(Please Note: Do not submit the same story printed in Volume I or Volume II. But you may update or correct previous stories. You may only submit new information, or write about someone not included in the earlier volumes.) A military section will be included in the book with 100 words or less and a picture free.
My wife Mary and I are on the Advertisement Committee and have been selling advertisement to help defray some of the cost of printing the book. If we haven’t called on your business, we hope to do so in the near future. As longtime members of the Johnson County Historical Society, we are very interested in this most recent Society project. Moreover, as Johnson County Historian, I’m very interested in this project and I look forward to the time when the book comes off the presses. The chairperson of the Book Committee is Kathy Terrill with members Malcolm and Sue Howard and Ted and Janie Gentry.
The books may be pre-ordered at a cost of $62.00 (includes tax) picked up in Mountain City, TN or $70.00 (includes tax, shipping and handing) mailed to customer. (Check or money order may be sent to “History of Johnson County TN – Volume III, P. O. Box 123, Mountain City, TN 37683).

Society officers for 2015 are Janie Gentry, President; Bob Morrison, Vice-President; Jessie DiProspero, Treasurer; and Sue Howard, Secretary.
