The Tomahawks first ever All Ti-County teams for football and basketball were well received by our readers. Many have emailed me to ask if we were going to do the same for baseball and softball. The answer is yes, but slightly different.
Weve scaled back a bit choosing to do an All Johnson/Carter County team for those two sports.
You have a large number of kids that participate in baseball and softball. Adding a third county would omit some schools from having a selection.
Northeast Tennessee is noted for having many good softball teams. The 2015 season was no different.
There werent many dominant teams but many of the leagues were well balanced.
Happy Valley and Elizabethton finished second and third in the Three Rivers Conference race behind Unicoi County. Johnson County placed fourth.
The bulk of our team is made up from those three schools. Unaka, Cloudland and Hampton are also represented.
Johnson Countys Cindi Edington and Happy Valleys Beth Reece received the highest honors on our first ever team. The pair was tabbed as Co-Players of the Year.
Edington was the leagues most complete player as an outfielder, pitcher and shortstop. She hit a blistering .455 which included 15 home runs and 35 RBIs. She compiled a .291 ERA on the mound and was one of the top strikeout pitchers in his area. She will continue her softball career at Emory & Henry University next fall.
Reece put up some eye-popping numbers. Her .575 batting average (67-106) was one of the top batting averages in Northeast Tennessee as was her 51 RBIs. The sophomore sensation had seven doubles, five triples and seven homers as a catcher. Her talents are already being noticed by several different colleges.
