Johnson Countys tennis team made a good showing in the District with one of its star players reaching the semifinals. Mitchell Stockinger took tournament champion Jacob Nuckolls down to the wire before losing in two sets 6-3, 6-4.
Stockinger had dominated his opponents until his match against the undefeated sophomore sensation from South.
He defeated Sullivan Norths sixth seed 8-2 in his first match and North Greens two seed 8-0 in his second one.
Stockinger knew it was going to be a good day. He left knowing that he had given it his best shot.
I didnt have very much trouble in my first two matches, said Stockinger. I kept making some big shots that carried over into my match with Jacob. I was extremely satisfied with how I played. I was on top of my game.
He definitely found his groove against Nuckolls. He had him down 4-3 before watching him storm back to win the game.
