KINGSPORT— Sullivan South’s Brayden Hutchins and Johnson County’s Kourtney Tolley engaged in a shootout in Colonial Heights on Monday. While Tolley won the gun battle, South took the contest 53-49 in a wild and whacky affair.
Hutchins blistered the nets for 31 points including six shots from behind the three-point arch.
Tolley’s 32 points came in all sorts of variety including 9-of-15 from the foul line.
It looked like the game was out of reach for the Lady Longhorns. They trailed by a baker’s dozen (42-29) after three quarters but rapidly started to get back in the game.
They managed to pull within three with 49 seconds remaining but South would hold on for the win.
“I’m proud of the way our kids fought back,” said Johnson County’s head coach Todd Whittemore. “Our kids didn’t give up which show a lot about their character.” Micahla Cretsinger added nine points for the Lady Longhorns. Kelsey Duperry had a pair of baskets to go along with eight rebounds.
