BLUFF CITY—Sullivan East rode the outstanding play of Ethan Bradford and Dylan Bartley to victory on Friday night inside the Dyer Dome in Bluff City. The duo combined for 48 points, 24 apiece to knock off Johnson County 86-52 in a Three Rivers Conference game.
The Patriots are now 3-1 in league play while the Longhorns fall to 1-4. It was the second consecutive league loss for Johnson County, who were beaten by Elizabethton on Tuesday night at home. Lucas Phillips fired in 20 points for the Horns while Clayton Cross followed with 14. The Patriots held Johnson County’s Michael Oxentine scoreless the entire game, which was a key to their victory.
“We allowed their outside shooters to get too many open looks that hurt us,” said Longhorns’ head coach Austin Atwood. “They always have kids who shoot the ball well, and this year is no different. Coach John Dyer does an excellent job of getting his team ready to play, and they were tonight. We’ve got to find a way to get over the hump and win a few of these games. Our kids really played hard tonight, and I liked that.”
The Longhorns trailed 19-15 after one as Bradford fired in 8 points while Phillips did the same for JCHS. East pretty much put the game away in the second quarter by outscoring the Horns 25-9 that extended their lead at 44-24.
They could never get back in the game from that point on. Only six Longhorns scored in the game. The Longhorns will play at Happy Valley on Friday night in another Three Rivers Conference matchup.
