GLADE SPRINGS—The up and down roller coaster ride continued for Johnson County baseball on Tuesday after a horrendous defensive effort did them in.
They took it on the chin 9-5 at Patrick Henry on Tuesday after committing six errors that led to seven unearned runs being scored.
The Longhorns took a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat. Nick Whitener ripped a base hit, scoring Jayden Joiner who had walked. Shane Greer’s groundout plated Bud Icenhour who had singled.
The lead was short-lived as the Rebels battled back to score five unearned runs in the bottom half.
PH held a 7-2 advantage going into the sixth inning, then put it away by scoring two more.
Johnson County scored a solo run in the sixth and two more in the seventh but couldn’t generate enough offense to overcome their defensive woes.
Whitener led the Longhorns at the plate going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI’s. Bud Icenhour was 2-for-4. Joiner, Josh Tierney and Petie Pavusek went 1-for-2 apiece. Greer drove in two runs and was 1-for-4.
