If you’re wanting some summer sporting fun, then Johnson County residents don’t have to look far. On The Grid Adventures, owned by Tonya Miller Weaver and Adam Buckles, is right in your back door.
They are located on the dock at Fish Springs Marina. And they offer a variety of fun things to do on the lake.
Weaver started her business four years ago. She got the idea on a vacation outing with friends.
“Four of us went to Hilton Head and saw one there,” said Weaver.
“Everybody seemed to be having fun doing it. I came home and wanted to do my own stand-up paddleboard shop. Now we’ve added kayaks and canoes.”
Miller offers lessons to first time paddle boarders. And she encourages everyone to wear a life jacket.
“The TWRA has some new rules about life jackets,” added Miller. “They have to be lying on the board. But I encourage everyone that leaves the dock to wear one even if they can swim. It’s a safety issue with me.”
Miller said the kayaks and canoes are very popular on the lake.
“You can go a long distance in a short time on a kayak,” stated Miller. “You can see a lot of scenery. There are some beautiful waterfalls and lagoons on the lake. I’ve also seen bears and other wildlife in the early morning hours.”
