Nelson Chapel All-Sports Clinic a huge success
By Matt Hill
Last week, Nelson Chapel Baptist Church used its new family life center to give a free sports clinic to kids in Johnson County.
The clinic was run by a group of missionaries from the Columbus, Ga. Baptist Association in which they gave the kids activities and tips in basketball and soccer.
Jamie Webb from the Columbus, Ga. Baptist Association was pleased with how the camp turned out.
Were running a sports clinic for the Watauga Association and are doing basketball in the morning and soccer later in the day, Webb said. Were also giving them a little devotion time and to experience Christ in our lives.
I get the satisfaction of being able to be around the kids and to help them learn a little bit about soccer, but also with this trip they asked come not only teach a little bit about soccer, but also about Jesus. Its great to be able to share that with everybody else.
Webb, who has coached soccer for over 15 years, knows the importance of using the Christian life in sporting events.
Sports can be an excellent tool for missionary work, Webb said. In sports you learn about teamwork and individual skills and incorporating sports into kids lives gives you chance to talk about Jesus Christ to them. Its a good missionary tool. Our kids go to Honduras and those kids love soccer. So if you get a chance to incorporate sports with what Christ has given you, then its an excellent missionary tool and its nice to know you dont have to travel that far to do it.
There was a good turnout for the camp as well.
