ELK PARK, NC—The trip to Avery County was “sweet” for Johnson County after they crushed Cranberry 9-1 on Tuesday. At no time did the Longhorns ever run out of “Juice.”
Ben Howard tossed a complete game four-hitter to earn the win. He struck out eight batters and walked four.
Cody Norris had two hits to lead Johnson County’s offense. Will Henson and Isaac Roark each provided doubles. Petie Pavusek, Howard, Taylor Nicholls and Preston Smith added one hit apiece.
The Horns scored two in the first inning on a two-run double by Norris scoring Pavusek who had singled and Bradley Livorsi.
Howard drove in Ryan Manual in the following frame with a single.
Henson had a double in the fourth that ignited another big inning for the Longhorns. Roark’s two-run double in the seventh would close out the scoring.
“It’s been a good week for Johnson County baseball,” said head coach Julian Crews after their wins over University School and Cranberry. “We bounced back in a big way after the Hampton loss. I was anxious to see how they would respond and they did so in a good way.”
