Longhorns to face dominant Roadrunners

Johnson County will get to see football at its best when it travels to Knoxville on Friday. Waiting is state-ranked Austin-East winners of six straight games and seven of the last eight.
The Roadrunners have lost games to No. 1 ranked Alcoa and private school powerhouse Knoxville Webb without their star tailback. Their only loss with him was against two-time defending state champion Greeneville 49-22.
Included in their wins was a 70-36 thumping of Knoxville Fulton, a team that is going to the 5A state playoffs. Fulton beat Oak Ridge on Friday night, another 5A team in the playoffs, and that spells trouble for the Longhorns.
Roadrunners, quarterback, Trey Foster, rushed for over 1,000 yards last season, and threw for more than 1,000 more.
In their win against Fulton, he accounted for eight touchdowns and 557 yards. That’s season statistics for a lot of high school players, but Foster is not their only marquee player.
Isaiah Ligon is a two-time All-State defensive back who has started since his freshman season. The return of stud running back Ahmaad Warren has definitely been a welcome addition to the talented backfield that features Ke’on Smith and freshman standout Markeyis Billingsley.
The Roadrunners are averaging over 400 yards of total offense over their last eight games and 38 points per contest.
Johnson County’s highest points per game total were 45 in their win at North Greene and 33 in another victory against Claiborne County, but neither is any Austin-East.
The Roadrunners hung tough with two-time defending 4A state champion Greeneville for more than a half this year and defeated No. 7 ranked Gatlinburg-Pittman 37-21.
Johnson County must play its best football game of the season to try and stay in the contest.
Austin East is about a three-hour trip from Mountain City. Fans need to remember that all playoff games will start 30 minutes earlier than the regular season games.
Kickoff is set to take place at 7:00 p.m.
