Longhorns' strong effort not enough; Sullivan North takes win

In the third and final game of the District 1 AA tournament at Unicoi County High School, the Johnson County Longhorns took on the Sullivan North Raiders for the third time this season. Fans had a hopeful first half, with Johnson County initially keeping the lead in a close first quarter. The Longhorns went into the second at 18-15 on the board after staying steadily ahead of their opponent thanks to a lot of offensive pressure. Unfortunately, after losing the lead with just seconds left in the half, Johnson County was unable to regain their grip, and was consistently trailing the Raiders for the remainder of the game.
For Coach Austin Atwood, the problem was trying to keep up the intense pressure under the boards. “What beat us were offensive rebounds. I think in the first possession they had eight offensive rebounds. They didn’t score, but still it had a lot to do with it. I just felt we kept letting them get a breath of air. I wish would have just kept the pressure on and rebounded a little better,” he said.
