Longhorns remain at No. 3 in Associated Press ranking

Johnson County pulled two first place votes and remained at No. 3 in the Associated Press’ latest 3A football poll. The Longhorns trail Alcoa who gathered 12 first place votes to remain No. 1 and Raleigh Egypt who gathered two first place votes after running their record to 8-0.

It’s worth noting that three teams from Region 2 3A are ranked in the top 10. Austin East is tied with Alcoa for first place in District 2. They will play each other on October 27th. Kingston (6-1) enters the poll for the first time this season at No. 9.

Local teams of interest
Elizabethton ranked No. 4 in Class 4A will battle No. 1 Greeneville on Friday. Happy Valley remained at No. 9 in Class 2A despite losing to Johnson County 14-7. Johnson County’s next week’s opponent, Cloudland, remained at No. 9 in the Class 1A poll. Scrimmage opponent, Daniel Boone, holds down the No. 9 spot in 5A.

Those who voted for this week’s poll are: The Daily Post-Athenian, Athens; Chattanooga Free Press, Chattanooga; Cleveland Daily Banner, Cleveland; Cookeville Herald-Citizen, Cookeville; The Tennessean (Nashville), Murfreesboro; State Gazette, Dyersburg; The Jackson Sun, Jackson; Johnson City Press, Johnson City; Marshall County Tribune (Lewisburg); The Daily Times, Maryville; Southern Standard (McMinnville); The Tomahawk (Mountain City),; The Commercial Appeal, Memphis; The Mountain Press, Sevierville; Union City Daily Messenger, Union City.
