The Johnson County Mighty Mites played “mighty” well on Saturday on a wet Cloudland’s John Orr Field. Coach Austin Atwood watched his team put a 20-0 spanking on Unaka in a game where everyone played well.
Carter Atwood got the Longhorns off to a good start with a 50-yard touchdown run to open the game. His extra point made it 7-0.
Unaka had trouble moving the ball but that wasn’t the case with the Longhorns.
Carson Jennings duplicated Atwood’s feat by reeling off another 50-yard TD that increased their lead at 14-0 after his extra point.
But the highlight of the day came later in the game.
Sawyer Marshall scored his first touchdown ever on a 31-yard run. He’s a kindergarten student at Mountain City Elementary.
Atwood and Jennings led the rushing department with 50 yards each. Marshall added 31. Bryson Kimble produced 42 yards on the ground while Ethan Robinson, Ian Lewis and Isaiah Eller had good runs.
