Longhorns finish number three in AP’s 3A poll

By Tim Chambers

This week’s Associated Press 3A poll saw very little change in the rankings.
Alcoa, Raleigh Egypt and Johnson County held firm to the top three spots after posting impressive wins on Friday.
Alcoa defeated Austin East 28-7 dropping the Roadrunners from the No. 4 spot to No. 7.
The state’s No. 2 ranked Raleigh Egypt closed out their 10-0 regular season with a 36-8 victory over Trezevant.
Johnson County has held the No. 3 spot since week 3 and remained there with its 28-14 conference clinching victory over Unicoi County. It’s the first time in school history that the Longhorns have finished the regular season 10-0.
Pearl-Cohn moved up to No. 4 after crushing Whites Creek 54-0. Covington (9-1) moves to No. 5 after beating Bolivar Central 47-20.
Red Bank 8-2 bounced No. 9 Loudon down a spot with a 49-24 victory. South Gibson remains at No. 8 defeating Milan 27-14.
Fairview (7-3) held down the No. 9 spot with its 62-18 thumping of Cheatham County. Loudon rounded out the top 10.
This is the final ranking for 2017.
