Longhorns defeat Holston; start year 3-1

The JCHS Baseball Team has played the role of a No. 1 seed in the early rounds of the NCAA Basketball Tournament this year. They’ve beaten the teams they’re supposed to beat.
The Longhorns did just that Thursday, winning 12-2 at Longhorn Field against the Holston Cavilers.

The win completed a season sweep for JCHS. The Longhorns won 10-8 over Holston.
While it’s hard to tell how good this Longhorn team is, all its doing is what its supposed to.
“We did what we’re supposed to do and we’re beating teams we’re supposed to beat,” JCHS head coach Pete Pavusek said. “We did our job.”
The Longhorns continued their offensive onslaught as they finished with 11 hits on the day.
Eric Cullop and Tyler Fenner led the way offensively with a two-for-three outing.
Sawyer Ward, Zack Hayworth, Danny Herman, Austin Humphrey, Sammy Hampton and Mark Jennings also had hits.
“They’re good hitters and they worked hard over the winter and they’re doing well hitting wise,” Pavusek said.
Pitcher James Reece was solid as he gave up two hits and five walks.
Still, Pavusek is concerned with the pitching as a whole.
“I’m a little concerned,” Pavusek said. “It’s such a big deal to be succeessful but I’m worried about it.”
The Longhorns cracked the top 10 in the weekly prep baseball rankings in the Johnson City Press.
