Cloudland delivered a major haymaker to Johnson County in the first quarter and hit them with the knockout punch in the third period.
The Lady Highlanders outscored them 37-14 in the two frames that led to their 59-39 victory inside of Sonny Smith Gymnasium.
The Highlanders came out hotter than a pistol in the first quarter. Megan Lunsford was 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line while Trinity Vines tossed in seven points including a trey. The duo sparked Cloudland to a 20-7 lead after one.
“They definitely showed us that we still have a whole lot to work on,” said Johnson County’s head coach Leon Tolley. “We didn’t come out ready nor did we play well defensively. Cloudland is a very good offensive team but we’re supposed to put up a little more resistance than we did. It was disappointing to watch.”
The Longhorns played even in the second quarter as both teams tallied 11 points each. Adrian Hall swished a pair of first-half treys while Taylor Cox added another one and five second-quarter points. Still the Horns trailed 31-18 at the half.
The third quarter was much like the first one for Johnson County. They were outscored by Cloudland 17-7 in the quarter and Taylor Parsons had five of those.
They outscored Cloudland 14-11 in the final frame but couldn’t duplicate the performance that they had against them at home.
The Lady Landers won a hard fought 48-46 contest back on November 21 inside of Ray Shoun Gymnasium.
Vines finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists to pace Cloudland. Lunsford and Stacia Wilson added 11 points apiece.
Cox topped Johnson County with nine points. Parsons added eight points and a game high 10 rebounds. Courtney Brooks provided seven and Hall finished with six.
