Johnson County had it their way against the Junior Varsity Patriots on Monday night at Paul McEwen Stadium. In Burger King fashion the Longhorns enjoyed a whopper 27-14 victory over Sullivan East.
It was big plays that made the difference in this contest.
The Horns first score came on a 54-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Troy Arnold to Nathan Lane. Jared Kimbell booted the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
Arnold would hook up with freshman Will Henson on a 15-yard TD pass to make it 15-0 in the second quarter after he ran in the two-point conversion.
They tried to put the game away with a nifty 68-yard touchdown run by Caden Arnold in the third quarter but their biggest play came on their final score.
Zach Eller broke loose for a 76-yard touchdown jaunt that ended any thoughts of a Patriots comeback.
Arnold finished the night completing 5-of-9 passes for 130 yards. The Longhorns rushed for 225 yards with Caden Arnold and Eller getting the bulk of them.
RJ Snyder and Ethan Snyder dominated play on the defensive side. Jimmy Bower and Kolby Clark played outstanding in the secondary.
Lane intercepted a pass in the end zone that put a halt to an East scoring drive. Kimbell had an all-around good game. Sam Kerley and RJ Snyder each had a sack.
The junior varsity will play again on Monday at Hampton with the kickoff set to begin at 6 pm.
