The Johnson County golf team made a good showing at Buffalo Valley on Thursday. They finished second to home standing Unicoi County and well above third place finisher Sullivan North.
Isaiah Penley tied for low medalist honors with a 41. Sawyer Main placed second on the team with a 49 and Dylan Nichols had a 52. Reece Stout and Noah Condor rounded out the scoring with a 55 each.
The girls won their match despite having only two players.
Marley Eggers finished with a 52 and Abigail Arnett came in with a 55.
Head coach Austin Atwood was happy with his team’s performance, especially the score that Penley shot.
“That’s about as good as I’ve seen Isaiah play all year,” said Atwood. “What’s more impressive is that he did it on a course where it’s hard to shoot a low score.  We had some guys step up and play well and I was also proud of our girls. I thought they played one of their better games.”
The team will now be heading to the District Tournament that will begin on September 29 at Elizabethton.
