For the second time this season the Lady Longhorns had Unicoi County on the ropes but the Blue Devils would pull off another Houdini. Tiffany Laughren and Taylor Wright hit solo home runs in the sixth inning allowing Unicoi County to escape with a 4-1 victory.
It was the classic matchup for five innings with only one being scored. Neelee Griffith led off frame five with a single, then scored after Laughren reached on an error.
It stayed that way until the sixth when the Blue Devils were finally able to muster three runs. JCHS head coach Dana Smith was left shaking her head.
We played pretty well at times and Cindis (Edington) pitching was outstanding, said Smith. But were not getting the key hits we need to win games. We left two on in the first and three on in the second and another runner on in the third. You cant beat a good team doing that. Then we dont get anyone on base until the seventh. We had our chances. They only struck out twice and we struck out nine times. That was a huge factor too.
