Johnson County tried to hang on but let a halftime lead slip-slide away. Hampton rallied from a 16-14 deficit to knock off the Longhorns 36-22 at Harold Arnold Field on Monday.
Shane Greer had a big day, catching two touchdown passes. He reeled in a 32-yard catch from Troy Arnold and caught a 46-yarder from Nathan Arnold.
Jordan Edes-King added a 34-yard touchdown catch from Nathan Arnold.
Nathan Lane had an interception. Freshman Blake Atwood had a good night rushing the football and receiving.
Hunter Davenport scored on a 94-yard touchdown run for Hampton. Jason Russell threw for a pair of touchdowns and scored another one to lead the Bulldogs.
JCHS Hayden Osborne stood out on the defensive side of the football with nine tackles. Jimmy Bower broke up three passes in the secondary and Josh Herman had two nice runs.
Coach Chris Cox also took the time to compliment the play of Bud Icenhour, Gage Hampton and Tyler Norris.
We had several kids who did a lot of good things tonight, said Cox. We just couldnt hold on to our halftime lead.
