ABINGDON, VA The Lady Longhorns took the fight to John Battle for two quarters only to see the game slip away in the second half. They fell 65-43 to the Lady Trojans after trailing 27-23 at the half.
Johnson County made only one field goal during the first quarter but only trailed 9-7 after one.
They managed to stay in the game, getting five points by Kelsie Terrill and four free throws by Michala Cretsinger in the second quarter. Battle got two late baskets by Daphine Hawkins that enabled them to build a 27-23 advantage at the half.
The Lady Longhorns tossed in 10 points each over the final two quarters but gave up 19 in each frame to John Battle. The Lady Trojans would put their lead to 20 with 3:42 remaining in the game.
Cretsinger led the Longhorns with 10 points. Terrill and Kelsey Duperry added nine points apiece. Courtney Brooks chipped in with eight.
Hawkins and Grace Posey scored 12 points each for John Battle.
