JCMS wins third place in Tri-County Seventh Grade Tournament

The JCMS Seventh Grade Girls Basketball Team struggled to start the year, but has turned things around at the finish.

The Lady Longhorns have bounced back nicely and this week took third place in the Tri-County Seventh Grade Tournament at Happy Valley Middle School.

Jayme Jennings was named All-Conference and All-Tourney while Courtney Wilson was named All-Conference and Celena Herman was named All-tourney.

Brianne Snyder was chosen to the All-Defensive Team.

The Lady Longhorns defeated Central Elementary in the first game of the tournament by a score of 32-28.

Jayme Jennings led JCMS with 10, Courtney Wilson had seven, Brianne Snyder had six, Celena Herman had five and Tiffany Brown had four.

“We played great from the start,” JCMS Assistant Coach Janet Brooks said. “I was proud of them. The ran the plays well and played as a team. We’ve been working on rebounding and we really cleaned up on the boards.”

The Lady Longhorns then lost to Unaka 44-20, but bounced back for a 19-15 win over Hunter

Against Hunter, Celena Herman scored five, Courtney Wilson had two Brianne Snyder had two, Tiffany Brown had one and Jayme Jennings led the Lady Longhorns with nine.

“They’ve come a long ways,” Brooks said. “They came in with very little fundamentals and now they’re playing as a team. They’re learning to use their left hand and I’m excited about next year.”

Brooks couldn’t be happier with how the team has finished up.

“This is a big accomplishment for this team,” she said.
