JCMS baseball gets two big victories to start season

The Johnson County Middle School Baseball Team started their 2012 baseball campaign on a positive note with a pair of non-conference victories. JCMS opened their regular season schedule with a convincing 10-0 decision against the Jr. Cyclones of T.A. Dugger Middle School. Less than 24 hours later, Johnson County picked up win number two by handing Avery County Middle School a 12-0 defeat.
Seventh grade pitcher Nick Whitener, took the ball for the home opener. From the first pitch, Whitener was dominant on the mound. He kept TAD off balance with a variety of off-speed pitches. When the final out was recorded, Whitener had finished the game with a no-hit performance.
Johnson County finished the game scoring ten runs on ten hits. Eight of the nine starters ended the game with at least one hit. Sam Icenhour and Nick Whitener paced the offense with two hits each.
JCMS picked up where they left off the night before with an impressive victory over Avery County Middle School.
Avery County had no answer for starting pitcher Logan Sargent. Sargent scattered three hits over five innings of work while striking out seven batters for the complete game victory.
JCMS scored runs in bunches. Three or more runs were scored in three of the four innings. Offensively the Longhorns collected hits from Justin Pardue, Cody Bailie, Logan Sargent, and Nick Whitener.
