JCMS baseball finishes week strong

The JCMS Baseball Team ended the week strong after hitting a bump in the road early in the week. The Jr. Horns finished the week posting a 3-1 record on a pair of wins on Thursday and a win on Friday. JCMS enters the month of April with a three game winning streak and a 7-1 overall record.

Johnson County was clicking on all cylinders Friday night with an impressive victory on the road. JCMS played non-conference foe Holston Valley on the road. The Horns were ahead by a score of nine to one after four innings of play and never looked back.
Nick Whitener pitched five innings of quality baseball striking out nine Rebels while only allowing two hits. Logan Sargent finished the last inning striking out two batters.
Brandon Vannoy had an outstanding game at the plate stroking three extra-base hits including a three-run shot over the left-field fence in the sixth inning. Vannoy finished the contest hitting for the cycle with a 4-5 day. Sam Icenhour added an inside-the-park homerun of his own with Justin Pardue and Logan Sargent chipping in a triple each. JCMS finished with fifteen hits on the day.

The Jr. Longhorn’s offense looked liked a well-oiled machine posting seventeen runs in three innings of work while pounding out fifteen hits in game one of a twin bill versus the visiting Highlanders. Logan Sargent and Caleb Throop split time on the mound only allowing one hit the entire contest. Throop was the winning pitcher getting the Longhorns out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the third inning.
Justin Pardue and Brandon Vannoy led the offense with three hits each followed by Caleb Throop with two hits. Ten Longhorns contributed one or more hits for the first game.

JCMS picked up where they left off in the first game scoring early and often. The Jr. Horns scored two runs in the first and eleven runs in the second as the game was called after three innings of play.
Collecting hits for the Longhorns were Payton Fenner, Cody Bailie, Logan Sargent, and Nick Whitener. Brandon Vannoy was the winning pitcher tossing three scoreless innings of baseball while striking out eight Highlanders. Cloudland only managed one hit for the game.

Providence 3
Johnson County made a valiant effort, but was not to able to overcome a strong pitching performance by the Knights. Though JCMS outhit Providence 7-6, the Knights came away with the victory. The Jr. Horns battled all the way to their final out in the seventh inning to tie the contest, but Providence would plate the deciding run in the bottom half of the inning.
Nick Whitener pitched seven innings scattering six hits. Brandon Vannoy had a multi-hit game with two doubles. Sam Icenhour hit the game-tying double in the top of the seventh inning with two outs and two strikes.
