JCHS freshmen teams split with Elizabethton Cyclones

Johnson County was hoping to earn a sweep on Thursday against Elizabethton but had to work hard just to earn a split.  The boys rallied late to earn a 41-36 victory. The girls hung close but dropped a 40-33 contest. Both games were played at Westside School.

Johnson County broke loose in the fourth quarter by outscoring Elizabethton 17-10 to earn a hard fought victory.
Luke Philips scored seven of his game high 16 points that helped the cause.
The Longhorns got six points each by Michael Oxendine and Darren Cunningham. Will Henson played well and contributed four points. Dylan Simcox had a key three-point basket in the third quarter that allowed them to take back the lead for keeps.  Josh Dugger closed out the scoring with a hoop. Petie Pavusek dished out three assists.
Luke Carrier and Corbin Montgomery had 14 and 11 points respectively for the Cyclones.

The Lady Longhorns held the lead four times in this one but couldn’t hang on down the stretch to get the W.
Taylor Parsons led the Cyclones with nine points and nine rebounds. Taylor Cox played well and added a nine-point effort. Chloe Arnold provided six points. Hannah Brooks  banked home a trey. Abby Cornett had a deuce. Adrian Hall scored only four points but grabbed 10 rebounds.
Kathlin Light topped the Cyclones with 11 points.
