JOHNSON CITY— Johnson County put up a good fight but fizzled at the end against Unicoi County. The end result was a 14-8 loss on Tuesday in the District 1 7-8-year-odl Little League Coach Pitch All-Star game played on John Mashburn Field.
The Longhorns got off to a great start after falling behind 2-0 to start the game.
“I’m very proud of the way our kids played,” said manager Charlie Jennings after the game. “We had those three innings where we didn’t score. That was the difference.”
Johnson County wasted no time answering the two that Unicoi scored in the bottom half of the first.
Carter Rhudy and Carson Jennings led off with singles. Nate Dorman then blasted a towering double well over the left fielder’s head to tie the game at 2-2.
Chris Reece added an RBI single as did Kaden Blevins. Ethan Reece drove in the final run with a groundout.
Johnson County led 5-2.
UC answered by scoring five times in their next at-bat to go up 7-5. They added a solo run in the third and led by three. But once again Johnson County responded.
They tallied three in the bottom half to tie the game at 8-8.
