KINGSPORT—Happy Valley did the little things on offense that help you win baseball games and Johnson County did very little. Justin Morefield tossed a four-hitter helping the Warriors to a 5-2 win in the District 1-AA baseball tournament played at J. Fred Johnson Stadium.
The Longhorns had defeated them twice during the regular season but never could get going this time around.
Happy Valley scored four runs over the first three innings to take a 4-0 advantage.
The Longhorns scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings but never could mount a serious threat.
Peyton Fenner singled and scored in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-1. But Happy Valley got it back in the bottom half without a single hit in the inning.
Justin Morefield was dominant on the mound for Happy Valley. The Milligan College signee allowed just four hits and struck out seven.
The Longhorns final run came in the seventh without the benefit of a single base hit.
Samuel Icenhour, Bud Icenhour, Daniel Livorsi and Fenner had the only hits in the game for Johnson County.
Taylor Hurley, Ryne Baines and Sage Haun had two hits apiece for Happy Valley. The Warriors had six in the game.
Fenner pitched the first five innings for Johnson County. Logan Sargent tossed the final one.
