One former Lady Longhorn is starting to “hit her stride” as a member of Milligan College’s softball team. Ashley Arnold enjoyed a banner day against Hiwassee College on Wednesday after an outstanding performance against Ferrum College in their last contest.
Arnold went 3-for-3 in the first game against Hiwassee with a pair of RBIs. She followed that up with a 2-2 performance making her a perfect 5-for-5 on the day.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time because I’ve been in a slump,” said Arnold.
“I was pressing quite a bit. It’s frustrating because you try and do everything possible to get out of it. I’m finally starting to hit it well. I was a lot more relaxed at the plate today.”
She began her hot streak going 2-for-3 against Ferrum College in their last contest. But her fielding has been the best part of her game.
She currently supports a fielding percentage of .972 as the Buffalo’s second baseman. Arnold says she’s finally getting comfortable with the college game.
“I hurt my arm during my freshman season and didn’t play much at all,” said Arnold. “I was still learning as a sophomore and sometimes playing complacent. Now I feel comfortable with my abilities. We’ve got a very good team and everyone is having lots of fun.”
Arnold and the Buffs will open their conference season at home against Bryan College on Wednesday.
