William M. “Bill” Roark, age 81, 4301 Cold Springs Road, Mountain City, TN passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 in Johnson City Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1930 to the late Noel Roark and Bessie Osborne Roark. Bill was a United States Army veteran having served in Korea. He attended Laurel Springs Community Church. Bill was also an avid NASCAR fan and especially a Jeff Gordon fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Trudy Roark, a sister, Gladys Hanna, and a brother, Coy Roark.
Survivors include one son, George Roark and Wanda of Butler, TN; two sisters, Pauline Pennington and Lois Presnell, both of Mountain City, TN; four brothers, Gene Roark and Spencer, both of Mountain City, TN, J.R. Roark of Creston, NC, and Thomas Roark of Jonesborough, TN; two grandchildren, Renea Stansbery and husband Chris and Jeanette Roark of South Carolina; two great grandchildren, Kirstin and Dalton Stanbery and several nieces and nephews. Special friends Bill Smith, Junior Pennington, Joe McFadden, Benny Rupard and Lester Mallett also survive.
Funeral services for William “Bill” Roark were conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Harvey White officiating. The family received friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Military graveside services accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard and interment followed in Reece Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Johnny Roark, Marty Roark, Tommy Roark, Dennis Roark, Steve Roark, Eddie Roark, Billy Roark, James Pennington and Jerry Roark. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Floyd Barker, Benny Rupard, Bill Smith, Danny Roark, Allen Osborne and Junior Pennington.
At other times friends may call at the residence, 4301 Cold Springs Road, Mountain City, TN or the home of the son, 392 Grindstaff Road, Butler, TN.
