Wayne Edward “Jerry” Jenkins

Wayne Edward “Jerry” Jenkins, age 79, departed this life for his heavenly home on Monday, February 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Wayne was born in Laurel Bloomery, TN on May 5, 1932, a son of the late Frank Jenkins and Jeston Rupard Jenkins. He lived most of his life in Bristol and attended Bluff City High School and Graham Bible College. He retired from Raytheon after many years of service.
Wayne enjoyed being outdoors, especially running beagles with his friends and grandsons. He was a talented woodworker, and also liked to farm and grow vegetables. He collected and refinished antiques, and was especially proud of his 1970 Chevy pickup truck.
He was a devoted member of Temple Freewill Baptist Church in Bristol, VA for 42 years. During those years he served as deacon, but also gave his time to landscaping and facility maintenance, anything he could do to help. Even in the last weeks of his illness, he insisted on going to church. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, always showing his love, sharing his time, and providing a good example. He was very proud of his family, enjoying many celebrations and gatherings, and especially liked playing Rook with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Vada Rupard; a sister, Juanita Booher; a nephew, Jason Gregg; and a niece, Denise Blevins.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years, June Mumpower Jenkins; sons, Larry Jenkins and wife Linda, Bobby Jenkins and wife Mary Ann; granddaughter, Heather Jenkins; grandsonss Benjamin Jenkins and wife Ashley, Landon Jenkins and wife Becca, Brandon Jenkins and his mother Debbie; great grandson, Alex Jenkins; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Jenkins; two precious little girls, Aidan and Kylie James; brother, Arigle Jenkins and wife Debbie; sisters, Helen Henderson, June Parks, Dimple Malone and husband Con, Janet Gregg and husband Jerry; sisters-in-law, Shan Mumpower, Sandra Short and husband Ron; brother-in-law, Bobby Mumpower and wife Flap; many nieces and nephews; very special friend, Cindy Fowler; his church family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Temple Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Sprinkle and Rev. Wallace Amos officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5-8 prior to the funeral service. The committal service will be at Mountain View Cemetery at 11:00 on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Landon Jenkins, Benjamin Jenkins, Brandon Jenkins, Lewis Eades, Sam Rock, Herman Eller, Steve Collins, and Copey Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Jared Rock, Jacob Rock, Jed Owens, Richard Skeens, Charles Booher and his nephews. Online condolences may be registered at
