Tommy M. Cornett, age 75, of 142 McCauley Lane, Boone, died Friday evening, February 11, 2011, at Watauga Medical Center.
Mr. Cornett was born December 19, 1935 in Watauga County, a son of Bonnie Cornett Shaw and the late Fred M. Cornett. He was a retired employee of Appalachian State University, where he worked in food procurement. Mr. Cornett was a member of the Class of 1954 from Bethel High School, in Sugar Grove, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Cornett is survived by a very special friend, Jeannie Harmon of Boone; two sisters, Martha Phillips and husband Bill of Zionville, and Mary Cornett of Boone; one brother, Ellard Cornett of Boone, one sister-in-law, Louise Cornett of Boone, and one aunt, Charlotte Nichols of Kernersville. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Francine Davis Cornett; one sister, Pauline C. Ward, and one brother, Albert G. Cornett.
Funeral services for Tommy M. Cornett were conducted Sunday evening, February 13, 2011, at 6:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body lied in state, at the chapel, from 4:00 until 6:00 o'clock. Officiating was Reverend Steve Goss, Reverend Carl Johnson, and Reverend David Hankal. Masonic graveside rites and burial were conducted Monday morning, at 11:00 o'clock, at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family received friends, Sunday afternoon, from 4:00 until 6:00 o'clock, at the funeral home prior to the service. At other times, friends may call at the home of a sister, Martha and Bill Phillips, 1324 Silverstone Road, Zionville, or at the home of his very special friend, Jeannie Harmon, 405 George Wilson Road, Boone.
The family respectfully requests no food.
