Thomas Kelly ‘Toby’ Roark, age 57, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born on January 11, 1957 to the late John Kelly Roark and Mary Pauline Hopkins Roark. In addition to his parents, Toby was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Kelly Hutchins Jr. and sister, Pearl Hardin.
Toby was a United States Army Veteran. During his enlistment, he served in Germany.
Toby was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. He was one of those people that after meeting one time, you felt like you had known him all of your life. He loved life and lived each day to the fullest. Toby enjoyed being outdoors and loved going fishing. He also enjoyed painting and eagles. Toby loved his family very much.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Fannon Roark; daughter, Michelle Walker; son: Thomas Kelly Hutchins and wife Tasha; step sons: Westley Propst and wife Emilee and Bill Propst; sisters: Mary Winkler, Thelma Gibbs, Jan Alvarez and Rose Baldwin; brother, William Daniel Roark; grandchildren: Brookanna Hutchins, Gunner Hutchins; step grandchildren: Emma Propst, Eli Propst, Eason Propst, Hali Propst and Hannah Propst; his two best friends and dogs, Rusty and Martin and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Nelsons Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Mike McNutt officiating.
Graveside service and inurnment were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee. Military honors were conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Toby’s ‘Angels,’ the staff at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
