Robert Harold “Bob” Bunten, born May 12, 1944 passed away on the morning of April 25th, 2011 just as the Sun was rising, after a long battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his family, went home to be with his Lord. Bob was a native of Mountain City, TN, graduate of Johnson County High School, class of 1962. He then attended Bristol Speedwriting and Secretarial School where he successfully graduated. Beginning in 1967 Bob spent 42 years working as office manager for what is now known as Johnson County Funeral Home and Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. He was a retired employee of Daniel Boone Inn where he worked as employment manager for 30 years. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church where he was organist for many years, was a member of the Johnson County Jaycees, Lions Club and was past president of the Mountain City Rotary Club receiving the Paul Harris award in 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Doris Bunten.
Survivors, wife of 45 years Barbara Bunten of the home, Two daughters, Deniece Norris and Debbie Swift, both of Mountain City, one Son David Bunten, Mountain City, two Granddaughters, Lakisha Bunten Morley and Dessarai Norris, both of Mountain City, one Grand-son Daniel Swift, Mountain City, one Sister, Carolyn Bunten, Mountain City, two Aunts, Mildred Younce, and Rose Bunten, Brother-in-law Harold Mains and wife Anita, Son Michael Mains and wife Lisa of Elizabethton, TN. Several close cousins and many special friends.
Funeral Services for Bob Bunten was conducted at 8:00 PM Wednesday April 27, 2011 from the Bethany Baptiist Church with Mr. Chris Morefield, Rev Harold Mains and Rev. Ralph Howard officiating.
Graveside service and burial was conducted Thursday April 28,2011 at the Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Larry Danner, John Brookshire, Roby Phillippi, Dion Hensley, Michael Mains and Steve Arnold.
Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Donald Tarr, Mark Grindstaff, Tony Randazzo, George Bunten, Ronnie Reece, Scotty Campbell, Deacons of the Bethany Baptist Church Employees of the Johnson County Funeral Home and members of the Johnson County Rescue Squad.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Johnson County Cancer Society in care of Flo Bellamy,3510 Highway 421 N. Mountain City, TN 37683 or to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street Mountain City, TN 37683
The family received friends from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Church prior to the service or at the family residence 1854 Campbell Road, Mountain City, TN at any time.
