Rev. Fred Edford Vanover, age 94, went to be with his Lord Monday morning, June 27, 2011 at Mountain City Care Center. He was a son of the late Ross Vanover and Amey Woodring Vanover. Rev. Vanover pastored Laurel Springs Methodist Church for a number of years and now is a member of Big Laurel Christian Union Church. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ennis Vanover; three brothers, Winston Vanover, Erix Vanover and Wade Vanover; two sisters, Devone Price and Draxie Vanover and sons-in-law, R.D. Wood and Terry Ellege; a grandson, Jerry Lee Vanover.
Survivors include: two daughters, Helen Wood of Mountain City, TN and Alease Ellege of Athens, GA; two sons, Homer Vanover and wife, Marjorie, and Ed Vanover and wife, Darlene, all of Mountain City, TN; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rev. Fred Edford Vanover will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from Big Laurel Christian Union Church with Rev. Darrell Graybeal, Mr. Ed Vanover and Rev. Homer Vanover officiating. Military graveside service accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum of Love. Pallbearers will be Wayne Vanover, Justin Vanover, Stephen Vanover, Edward Vanover, Larry Trivette, Boyd Osborne, Tracy Osborne and Virgil Osborne. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Big Laurel Christian Union Church.
