Raleigh G. Combs, age 78, of Mountain City, Tennessee, died Monday evening, March 5, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Combs was born July 10, 1933 in Watauga County, a son of the late Rufus Clyde Combs and Victoria Guy Dishman. Mr. Combs served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War.
Raleigh worked at the Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, Ohio until starting his own business, Alldrain Sewer and Drain Service.
Raleigh was devoted to his family and loved giving his time and love to everyone. He was one of the founders of the Guy-Combs Cemetery Association, Inc.
Mr. Combs was a 32nd degree Mason – Scottish Rite, and a member of Sharonville Lodge in Sharonville, Ohio.
Mr. Combs is survived by his wife, Lois Kress Combs of the home; one daughter, Nancy Combs Mixon and husband Clark of Mountain City; two sons, Thomas Raleigh Combs of Sugar Grove, and Michael William Combs and wife Laura of Vilas; special children raised and loved by the family, Chris Kish of the home, and Michelle Kish Proctor and husband Charlen of Morristown, Tennesee; grandchildren, Garrett Mixon and wife Meghan of Zionville, Matthew Proctor of Morristown, and Raleigh William Combs and William Douglas Combs, both of Vilas; two sisters, Mary Alma Combs Trivette of Sugar Grove, and Loy Carolyn (Merle) Combs Guy of Vilas; one brother, Roy Harold (Berle) Combs and wife Marilyn of West Salem, Ohio; and special friends, Mr. Clay Atwood, Mrs. Karen May, and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Trivett, Jr. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Dolphus Claude Combs, Jesse Alvin Combs, Robert Paul Combs, Henry Earl Combs, Albert Clyde Combs, Genevie Combs Farthing, Ralph Olus Combs, Hollan Thomas Combs, Willard Raymond Combs, Walter Lee Combs, Dallas Combs, Alice Combs, and Kermit Howard Combs.
Funeral services for Raleigh G. Combs were conducted Saturday afternoon, March 10, 2012, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body lay in state, at the chapel from 12:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating were Reverend Frank Johnson, Reverend David Ward, and Reverend Eric Cornett. Masonic graveside rites and burial followed in the Guy-Combs Cemetery, provided by Snow Lodge #363.
The family received friends Saturday afternoon from 12:00 until 2:00 o'clock at the funeral home prior to the service. At other times, friends may visit the Combs residence in Mountain City.
