Mrs. Opal Susan Woodard Graybeal age 92, of West Jefferson, died on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson. Mrs. Graybeal was born on January 6, 1921 in Ashe County to Noah Samuel and Hattie Arnold Woodard. Mrs. Graybeal was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wade Denton Graybeal, daughter, Donna Jean Combs, son, David Graybeal, granddaughter, Bridget Dunn, sister, Ruby Potter, brother, Ulysses Samuel Grant and special friend, Nell Sutherland. Mrs. Graybeal loved to garden and work in her flowers. She retired from Sprague Electric and after retirement she worked at Ashe Services for the Aging.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Graybeal is survived by: three daughters, Judy Roark and husband Jerry of Jefferson, Arwanna Watson and husband Talmage of Warrensville, Shirley Dunn and husband Boyd of Butler, TN; one son, Joseph Graybeal of West Jefferson; two brothers, John Woodard, Raymond Woodard both of Mountain City, TN; two sisters, Virginia Phillips, Pearl Osborne of West Jefferson; special caregiver, Linda Reavis; also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
