Noah Samuel Gilliam, age 78, of Mountain City, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2011. He was born on January 26, 1933 to the late Blaine and Lola Mullins Gilliam. In addition to his parents, Noah was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Shoun Gilliam and a brother, Jerry Gilliam. Noah loved animals and was known for raising miniature horses and coon dogs. He was a very active member of Central Baptist Church.
Noah is survived by his beloved friend, Rita Hutton; daughters, Carolyn Handy and husband, James, of Abingdon, VA and Sherryl Livesay of Burlington, NC; sons, Noah Douglas Gilliam and wife, Debi, of Walterboro, SC and Bryson Oliver and wife, Phyllis, of Sugar Grove, NC; Rita’s daughters, Melissa Seivers and Debby Hutton; brother, Joe Gilliam and wife, Kathy, of Rice, VA; grandchildren, Seth Livesay and Caitlyn Livesay, both of Burlington, NC, Amber Gilliam of Charleston, SC and Beth Bradt of Greensboro, NC and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Central Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Thomason and Brother Charles Worley officiating.
Graveside service and interment were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers were pastors of the community and Joshua Harmon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tri-State Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 888, Bristol, TN 37621 or Johnson County Camp Meeting, c/o Shirlene Pardue, 283 Rainbow Road, Mountain City, TN 37683.
