Naomi Lee Vaught Smith, 93, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2014, at home. Born to Raymond and Gertrude Vaught on December 4, 1921, she grew up in a loving farm family in Mountain City, Tennessee, Johnson County, with seven brothers and sisters: Margaret, Dale, Bruce, Alice, Francis, Ella Mae, and she is survived by her sister Mildred (Mid) Vaught Lowe and sisters-in-law Nannie Vaught (Dale), Kate Vaught (Bruce) of Pennsylvania and brother-in-law Herbert Joines (Alice) of Mountain City, Tennessee. She is survived by her sons, Paul Smith (Donna) who were her only primary care givers of Memphis, and Adrian Smith (Karen Parker) of Newark, California. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Erin Smith of Oakland, California, who frequently visited her grandmother; Carrie Smith (Curtis) and Courtney McKane (Kenny) and six great-grandchildren, all of Virginia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Smith, in 2000 and her only grandson Shannon Smith (son of Paul Smith and Harriet Smith) in 1999. Her life was made much more comfortable and fun by her devoted 24 hour caregivers, Mary Michael and Jean Mayberry, who loved her dearly. Thank you both. Naomi graduated from Johnson County High School, class of 1941. After high school she attended Baroness Erlanger Nursing School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and graduated on September 3, 1944. She joined the Navy as an Ensign to serve until the end of WWII. She was an avid and creative seamstress. She also loved playing golf, bridge and the stock market. She was a very charitable person and as a Southern Baptist loved her church, Georgian Hills Baptist where she was a member of the Joy Club. She was a friend to everyone she met and enjoyed traveling and shopping around the world.
