Ms. Ruth Grindstaff of 5468 Roan Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 01, 2013 at her residence. Ruth was a Johnson County native where she had lived all her life. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lillie Shull Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers: Don Grindstaff, Robert Grindstaff, and A.D. Grindstaff and a sister, Hazel G. Jones.
She was a graduate of Johnson County High School and East Tennessee State University; she taught school in Johnson County for 45 years and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Johnson County. She was active in the Neva Elementary School PTA. Ruth enjoyed being outside and working in her garden and flowers and she also loved quilting and sewing. She was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church where she at one time taught the primary Sunday School class.
Survivors: one sister, Rosa Ward, Mountain City, Tennessee, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Ms. Ruth Grindstaff were conducted on Sunday, January 6th 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Penley, Rev Carl Swift, Rev. Rick Thomason and Dr. Dan Little officiating. Music was under the direction of Rev. Jim Norman and Patty Watson. The family received friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and burial followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Charlie Grindstaff, Danny Grindstaff, Justin Grindstaff, Robert Cunningham, Jerry Grindstaff, Benny Grindstaff, Blake Grindstaff, Travis Grindstaff, Dakota Grindstaff, Joe Grindstaff, Billy Ward, Mark Ward, Wayne Vaught, Joshua Vaught, Donnie Hampton, and Charlie Cutlip.
Honorary pallbearers will be Men’s Sunday school class, Dr. John Whitlock, Wes Holly, Rex Greene, Joe Thomas, and Greg Thomas. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the I.C.U. Staff at the Watauga Medical Center of Boone, N.C. and the nursing staff of the second floor at the Johnson City Medical Center.
