Mildred B. (Granny) Chafin, age 79, of Hwy 71, Lebanon, VA, passed away November 29, 2011 at the Russell County Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born November 11, 1932 to the late Tom and Grace White. Granny loved playing Bingo and calling and talking to her friends on the phone.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlen Chafin, and two sons, Thurman Chafin and Donald (Twink) Chafin.
She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Tankersley and husband Carl, Lebanon, Rita Sue Keen, Lebanon, Ella Mae Sutherland, Lebanon; one son, Mike Chafin and wife Kimmie, Mountain City, TN; grandchildren, Lisa Minton and husband Hank, Carl Clinton Tankersley and wife Maria, Shannon Keen and wife Amy, Rebecca Sutherland, Kevin Keen, Carlos Sutherland Jr., Steven Chafin, Jennifer Keen Phillips and husband Lonnie, Sondra Blevins, Michael Chafin, Julia Shortt and husband Kenneth, Bethany Fields and husband Josh, Hunter Blevins and Makayla Chafin; 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild also survive; two sisters, Audrey Lampkins and husband George, Lebanon, and Virginia Salyer, Castlewood, VA; one brother, Richard White and wife Dolly, Lebanon; several nieces, nephews and a lot of special friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Dwight Bailey and Sandra Altenbach and the staff of ICU at Russell County Medical Center.
The funeral service was conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Virgil Musick and the Rev. Lannie Powers officiating. Committal service and interment was conducted 11 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Carl Clinton Tankersley, Kevin and Shannon Keen, Carlos Sutherland, Hunter Blevins, Tausten Tankersley, and Benjamin Keen. Serving as honorary pallbearers were special friends. The family received friends Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
