Michael S. Horne

Michael S. “Mike” Horne, CMSGT, U.S. Air Force, Ret. was born October 27, 1960 in Mountain City, Tennessee and went on to be with our Lord suddenly on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the age of 55.  He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rita Farmer Horne; two sons, Jared Michael Horne and Matthew Steven Horne of Holtville/Slapout, AL; two sisters, Judy Snyder (Joe Pat) of Mountain City, TN, Karen Beasley (John) of Bristol, VA; and one brother, Randy Horne (Lisa) of Malvern, AK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barton and Ruth Horne; his brother, Barton Horne Jr., and sister, Drema Horne Fuller.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in March 1980 as an Airman Basic in San Antonio, TX.  He served his country well for 23 years, retiring in Montgomery, AL as Chief Master Sergeant in June 2003 from Maxwell Air Force Base/Gunter Annex.  He went on to perform various contract and civilian jobs, and was a Systems Administrator for DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency) at the time of his death.
A member of Cain’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Holtville/Slapout, Mike was a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, and held the office of chairman for the Sound System Committee.  Mike was instrumental in integrating the Jacquelyn Hodges Earnest Carillon Bell Tower system with the church sound system. This enabled church-goers, friends and neighbors in the community to hear the bells toll a wide variety of songs.  He was also an active member of the Men’s Ministry.
An avid sportsman, Mike loved golf, bowling, softball and most notably, his Tennessee Vols football team.  However, it was fishing that brought him the most enjoyment.  He was affectionately known as “Uncle Fish” by a few close friends.  He was a loving husband and father, and a genuine friend to so many.  Hard working and generous, he was an inspiration.  His wisdom and guidance are a legacy that has touched many.  He will be missed, and we will be comforted knowing he is in the hands of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Pallbearers will be Brad Crawford, Hank Tidd, Steve George, Herb Hoff, Charles Duck, and Bill Bonner.
