Mary lived in Mountain City until 1980 at which time she moved to Johnson City and remained there during her retirement. She will always be remembered for her humor and ability to make everyone laugh. She befriended everyone and was always ready to help a stranger as well as a friend in time of need. She enjoyed history and loved the history of country music. She was a regular at the Carter Fold in Hiltons, Virginia for years and liked playing a harmonica with anyone who was willing to join in. She was an adventurer and never hesitated to take off on a short trip at the spur of the moment and always found her travels rewarding. She always made everyone feel welcome and will be missed by her family, her neighbors and her friends. Mary was very creative; she loved writing poetry and making accessory items for friends and neighbors as well as casual acquaintances. She was fond of talking about her experiences during WWII while working at the Pentagon and later with Holton Defense Corporation in Kingsport, TN.
The family was available for friends and neighbors to join them in a tribute to Mary and her life on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 9th, 2012 from 3-5:00 pm at the Mountain City Funeral Home. There will be no formal services at her request and the family will have a private family internment at her request as well.
Mary did not like for anyone or anything to go hungry, therefore in lieu of flowers, she would request donations to your local food bank or local animal shelter in her honor.
