Mary Varnell was peacefully delivered to the Lord on June 23rd, 2013. Daughter of Charles Perry Gaither and Lillie Warren Gaither, she was born in Norfolk, Va., but her heart was always in Tennessee.  She graduated the University of Miami with a nursing degree. She was always a scholar, music lover and a true naturalist.  She especially loved her home and friends in Mountain City.  She was survived by her daughter, Laura Lipton and her son John Varnell; her sister, Nany Lee Boland; and nieces, Terry Gaither,  Charlotte Tarr and Nancy Ann Willoughby; and grandchildren, John Robert Varnell, Lance Lipton and Joshua Lipton.
A special thanks to the staff at Mountain City Rehab Center, as they were so good to her.  Also, we want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Winola Perkins, who was her companion, sitter and helper for the last years of her life.
Arrangements for Mrs. Varnell were in the care of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home of Mountain City, Tennessee.

Jane Marie Dougherty, age 69, passed away at Holston Valley Hospital on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Mrs. Dougherty was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Scarbough and Mabel Hutton Griffin; husband, Jim Dougherty; and a brother, Billy Hutton.
Survivors include: two daughters, Pam Rodgers, Jacksonville, Florida and Teresa Nolder, York, Pennsylvania; four sons, Mike Taylor, Mountain City, TN, Don Taylor, Kingsport, TN, Rick Kraft, Kingsport, TN, and Scott Taylor, York, Pennsylvania; one sister, Sara Cox of Church Hill, TN; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Joan Ellis of Church Hill, TN also survive.
The graveside service was at 3:00 P.M Friday, July 5, 2013 from the Triplette Cemetery with Minister John Hammett officiating.
