John R. Phillips, age 83, went to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, in the Cambridge House.
He was born in Mountain City, Tenn., and he lived most of his life in the Bristol area. He was a former employee of Daniels Construction Company. Mr. Phillips was a decorated U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bell Daughtery Phillips; and brother, Ivan Phillips.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Glenna Mae Booher Phillips; daughters, Sandy Baines and husband Perry, and Jeannie Cook and husband Rolce; son, Johnny Phillips; five grandchildren; one step-daughter; eight great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; sister, Lucille Nye; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 in the Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Gary Hess and the Rev. Eddie Crusenberry officiating. Military honors were conducted by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard.
