John Marshall Fields, age 82, of Grace Terrace Drive, Granite Falls, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born December 3, 1931 in Ashe County to the late William Marshall and Flossie Nichols Fields. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Fields was retired from both the United States Air Force and the United States Postal Service. He was a faithful member of Winklers Grove Baptist Church, and had an unbreakable commitment to Christ, his country and his family. He was passionate about hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Reba Jewell Fields of the home; one son, John Fields, Jr. and wife Georgiana of Dacula, Georgia; one daughter, Mrs. Harriet Lewis and husband David of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Amanda Lewis, William Lewis and wife Cari, Stephen Fields and Travis Fields.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Winklers Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dale Faulkenbury. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with full military honors.
The family received friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
