Hilda Cato Foster, age 66, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee. She was a life long resident of Washington County, Virginia and was the daughter of Sid Cato of Damascus, Virginia and the late George Cato, Sr. She retired from Media General, formerly Washington County News, after 40 years of service. She was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Susie Foster; one brother, George Cato, Jr., and a special nephew, Gary Wayne Coleman, Jr.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Don Foster, Sr.; three sons, Tim Foster of Richmond, Virginia; Donald Foster, Jr. and his wife, Missy, of Abingdon, Virginia, and Chris Foster and his wife, Angie, of Summerville, South Carolina; three sisters, Margaret Plummer and her husband, Danny, of Meadowview, Virginia, Hilah Coleman of Damascus, Virginia, and JoAnn Sapp and her husband, Emory, of Deltona, Florida; two brothers, Jimmy Cato and Johnny Cato, both of Damascus, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Brooke, Seth, Hailey, Emily, Elizabeth, and Alyssa Shay; two special nieces, Carolyn Doss and Jennifer Neely; a special aunt, Nancy Whitten; and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 6, 2012, in the First Baptist Church in Damascus, Virginia with Rev. Wayne Guynn and Mr. David Matlock officiating. The committal service and interment followed at Mock Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Campbell, David Keith, Bill Thomas, Tony Doss, Dean Neely, and James Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Cole, Mike Cole, and Charles Cook. The family received friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. Friday prior to the funeral service at the First Baptist Church.
