Gladys Irene Walsh Evans, 87, 624 Norris Road, Butler, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Rodney and Alice Green Walsh. She was a graduate of Watauga Academy, Butler, and in her earlier years she taught school. Mrs. Evans was a member of the Meadowview Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Evans, on January 10, 2007 and a son, Jerry Dale Evans, on November 30, 2008; a brother, Earl Walsh; and a sister, Eula Mae Main.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Gail Evans and Gary Mark and Layna Evans, all of Butler and Kyle and Lisa Evans of Bristol; a daughter-in-law, Marty Davenport Evans, Butler; her grandchildren, Gary R. Evans, Kolby Evans, Kylee Evans, Josh Miller and Joe Miller; two great grandchildren, Reagan Miller and Isaac Miller; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Jerri Walsh, Lenoir, NC, Bill and Doris Walsh and Larry Joe and Joyce Walsh, all of Butler, and Rodney Walsh, Jr., Kingsport; one sister and brother-in-law, Anna Ruth and Raymond Campbell, Butler; a brother-in-law, Parker Martin, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Walsh; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 in the Meadowview Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Jones and Rev. Ray Green officiating. Interment was in the Buntontown Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Gary R. Evans, Kolby Evans, Josh Miller, Joe Miller, Steve Walsh, Michael Walsh, George Bunton and J.R. Bunton. Honorary pallbearers were members of Meadowview Baptist Church.
