George Ronald “Ron” Buchanan, 81, of Bluff City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Wellmont Hospice House.  Mr. Buchanan was born on August 12, 1934 in Bristol, Virginia, a son of the late George Buchanan and Margaret Forgey Buchanan.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a wholesale florist for many years. Mr. Buchanan was a member of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church where he served as Treasurer, Deacon, Elder and in various other ministries in the church. He was an avid square dance caller for about fifteen years in several clubs around the Tri-Cities area. In addition to his parents, Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by one sister, Toonie McCary. 

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Betty Buchanan; two daughters, Rhonda Buchanan, of Camas, WA and Mimi Bailey and husband Fred, of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Barbara Poore, of Bristol, VA and Joan Freels, of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5:00pm until 6:45 pm at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral Service for Mr. George Ronald “Ron” Buchanan will follow at 7:00pm at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Hutton officiating. Committal and Interment will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 9:00am at Glenwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Godsey, Jim Williams and Sherrill Flick.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the numerous family and friends who lent a helping hand during Mr. Buchanan’s illness especially his nephew, Sherrill Flick.
