Frank Grayson, age 81, of 421 N. Church Street, Mountain City, TN passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012 at his residence. He was the son of the late J. L. Grayson and Bess Payne Grayson. Mr. Grayson was a member of First United Methodist Church and a United States Army veteran having served in Korea. He loved old time music, was a master fiddler and a master craftsman. Over the years he played with various well known musicians including Doc Watson and Tom Ashley and his Tennessee Merry Makers. Frank is listed in the music archives at East Tennessee State University and Appalachian State University. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Grayson Greer; a half-sister, Ruby Grayson Butler; and a half-brother, Stacy Grayson.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Grayson, of the home; one daughter, Becky Grayson Miller and husband Johnny of Laurel Bloomery, TN; one son, Michael Grayson of Mountain City, TN; one brother, Jim Grayson of Bristol, TN and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by all his special friends at the Johnson County Community Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Frank Grayson were conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Buford “Boo” Hankins and Pastor Larry Rye officiating. The family received friends from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment were held in Sunset Memorial Park following the funeral service with flag presentation by Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Johnny Miller, Ricky Miller, David Miller, Joey Miller, Bobby Thacker and Ronnie Garland.
