Elmer ‘Gene’ Pierce, age 60, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 11, 1955 to the late Dale and Ruth Lewis Pierce.
Gene was a true family man who always put his family first. He was a member of Doe Valley Volunteer Fire Department and former chief. During his spare time, Gene enjoyed woodworking and going to flea markets.
Gene was also a devout Christian who loved his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Dewey Christian Church.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kathy Lewis Pierce; loving daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Michael Kyte; granddaughter, who was Gene’s pride and joy, Gracie Kyte; sisters: Thelma Cook and husband Eugene, Martha Hayworth, Viva Sheffield, Anna Lee Lowe and Virgie Marley; brothers: Lawrence Pierce and wife Shirley and Kyle Pierce and wife Patsy; many special friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Zionville Baptist Church Cemetery with Minister Bud Gentry officiating. Pallbearers were Shane Reece, Johnny Morefield, Alfred Wilson, Gerald Price, Tracy Atwood and Keith Burchette. Honorary pallbearers were John Holloway, Larry Danner and Richard Wittenberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gene’s memory may be made to the Johnson County Cancer Support Group, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 N., Mountain City, TN 37683.
The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the Staff of Hillview Health and Rehab of Elizabethton and to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America for all of their compassion and loving care.
